Finding Balance in Your Life
Today’s blog post is going to be a little different. Today I want to write about finding balance in your life.
Many people start off this business thinking that they are only going to spend 4 hours a day on their business. But in reality they spend ALL of their free time on building their business.
The problem with this is that you are not finding a balance in your life. The balance that I want to focus on is the balance between exercise, family time, work, and “me” time.
First I want to talk about exercise.
Some of you might be thinking what the crap does exercise have anything to do with finding balance? What if you didn’t have your health? Would you be able to do the things you do? Would that affect your business?
For those of you who don’t have good health, you can still try and improve your health and take care of your body. You are only going to be given one body in this life, so you better take care of it!
When you exercise you feel ten million times better about yourself, and even your attitude is better. How many of you can say that you are completely satisfied with your weight and the state of your health?
I know I can’t say that, which is why I decided to go out with my husband and go for a run every morning. We’re also going to start the famous P90X workout which is said to be really hard. I even am going to take a before and after picture, that’s how serious I am about this.
Now you don’t have to go and run 5 miles the very first day! Just start out with taking a walk around the block. Something is better than nothing.
I also totally endorse getting an exercise buddy to do your routine with you. When one of you is feeling lazy, the other can be the encourager and get your bootie out the door.
Next I want to talk about family time.
When I first started my business, I would spend all day everyday working on my business. There was just so much to do!! I forgot why I started this business. I started this business to be able to spend more time with my family.
My husband felt like I was totally ignoring him! I would get annoyed at stupid little things and be in a bad mood all the time. That is NOT my usual self. I think that’s what happens when you spend too much time in front of the computer!
My husband asked me one day if he made me happy. That is when I finally realized that I needed to find a balance in my life. I mean just because there was so much to do, it did not mean that I had to try and do it all in one day. Building a business takes time and patience.
Not only that but he is the most important thing to me and I wasn’t making him feel that way and letting him know that he really does make me happy. If I didn’t have my family I don’t know what I would do. I decided to set a schedule for my day.
This brings me to my work time.
I decided to make a list of everything that I needed to do the night before and write it down on the white board. Then I would be as efficient as possible the next day and get that list done! After the list was done, I was done working for the day and would spend the rest with my family.
Many of you probably have other jobs as well. I would suggest making your to do list a little shorter than the full timers. Your family should be what is most important to you in this life, not working or making huge money.
Lastly I want to talk about having “me” time.
Everybody needs breaks from the rest of the world every once in a while. For those of you have kids, you probably don’t get a whole lot of “me” time. But 5 minutes is better than nothing.
During “me” time is when you can take a break from everything and do what you want to do. You can read a book, watch TV, or take a stroll around the neighborhood.
Having “me” time is also a time for personal development. Now I don’t know about you guys, but I am a VERY spiritual person and I think that our spirituality has a lot to do with our personal development.
In my church, we have a modern day prophet that speaks to us twice a year and his words are printed in our magazine. I love reading his words and really reflecting on how they apply in my life and how I can be better person.
For those of you who aren’t spiritual, you can still have personal development. Every once in a while I sit down and make a list of everything that I am good at. When I say everything, I mean both seen and unseen. This does a lot for your self esteem and self worth.
I then make a list of everything that I want to work on in my life. Everything that I feel I need to improve on implement in my life. Then I work on those things one at a time. Doing this makes you feel even more accomplished, well rounded, and satisfied in life.
I promise that if you find balance between those four things which are exercise, family time, work time, and me time, you will find more happiness and satisfaction in your life.
Take charge of your life and make yourself happy! We are put on this earth to live, not to work! Spend time with the ones you love because you never know when that time is going to be gone . . . at least gone in this life.

These are some great tips, Erin! I think that far too many people tend to forget that there are other, deeper reasons for wanting to get into business. I know that we want to succeed, but I think that you are right that success in one thing will everything else falls apart is a pretty hollow “success.”

Hey Erin, great post.
I actually just had a similar conversation with a fellow FB friend
I always try to use the wheel philosophy to get people to visualise how balance works, all sections of the wheel have to have the same amount of effort put in to them to make the wheel go round
Keep up the great posts

Great Post Erin, Scheduling my time every day has been really helpful for me since I started working online, it definitely helps keep the balance. I really like that once you finish your to do list its done for the day its doesn’t keep lingering on and on… spending time at other thing you love and with family N friends is important too.

Hi Erin,
Balance is key these days. If we overwork ourselves, it can lead to a lot of personal problems.
I just loved your analogy to exercising. That is so true…I’ve been exercising since I was 15 years old. And sure it does give you so much more energy.
Having balance can also give you the energy… Really nice job on this post.
Have a great weekend,

Hey Erin,
It is so difficult to find balance within your day! I have trouble because I’m so excited about creating valuable content and sharing it…that I just want to be online all day!
I also love that you mentioned working out! I’m doing Tae Bo and it can be difficult to get motivated when my focus is elsewhere!
Thank you for sharing this post! I can definitely relate!

I hear you on the excitement part of it! You start seeing results and all you want to do is keep on going! I love Tae Bo and Turbo Jam also! Anything that keeps changing so I don’t get bored. I hate running cause you’re just doing the same thing the entire time.

Erin these are great tips I can totally relate to getting frustrated at some little thing that really is nothing at all at the end of the day. But it comes from being so caught up in the “computer time”. I think total balance is hard to come by there will always be something that you gravitate to more (like your business) but we shouldn’t become so engrossed that we totally ignore everything else.

Hi Erin,
I always need to be reminded of this. Maintaining balance in my life can be a huge challenge for me. I just seem to be wired another way so I have to work on it constantly. Thanks for the reminder.

Great post Erin and something that really hits home with me. I started MLM to spend MORE time with my children and whilst building my MLM and learning new skilss as well as another J-O-B it has been hard to fit in health and fitness. I will endeavour to change that! Thanks. Nicky
